Forehead wrinkles are commonly seen in aging skin and appears as horizontal lines running across the forehead.
To assess your forehead wrinkles, simply look into the mirror and try raising your eyebrows!
The main muscle of facial expression in the forehead is called the frontalis and its job is to raise your eyebrows.
Repetitive contraction of the frontalis muscle over time coupled with decreasing amounts of collagen and elastin in the skin as one ages contributes to the appearance of forehead lines and wrinkles.
Other factors that may worsen the appearance of forehead wrinkles include dry skin, increased UV exposure, smoking and other unhealthy lifestyle habits.
Botox is one of the best wrinkle treatment solutions and is one of the most popular aesthetic injectable treatment in the market.
Botox improves wrinkles by relaxing the frontalis muscle, thereby reducing the frequency and intensity of the muscle's contraction.
In summary, less muscle contraction = less skin movement = improvement in lines and wrinkles.
Botox works by interfering in the conduction of nerve signals to the muscle.
Lesser nerve signals reaching the muscle = less contraction
During the consultation, Dr Edwin will analyse your wrinkles and formulate a customised treatment plan with you.
After marking out the injection points and confirming the dosage to be injected, the treatment area will be "iced" to reduce discomfort and risk of bruising.
Botox injections are carried out using a tiny needle. Discomfort is minimal and at most, feels like a small ant bite.
After treatment, small bumps containing botox will be seen at the injection site. These bumps resemble small mosquito bumps and will disappear after 4 to 6 hours.
It is important that patients do not massage or press on these bumps as that may cause botox to diffuse into an undesirable area.
If there is bruising, the intensive recovery cream is recommended to speed up the recovery of bruises.
In steady hands, discomfort is little to none. Furthermore, Dr Edwin uses tiny needles as well as applying ice prior to each injection to keep discomfort as minimal as possible.
Forehead Botox typically lasts around 3 to 4 months for a "natural" dosage and between 4 to 6 months for higher doses in those who request for a more "frozen" look.
Botox forehead results usually take between 3 to 10 days to appear. After 2 weeks, if more botox is required, please arrange an appointment and Dr Edwin will discuss with you to assess if more botox is recommended.
No, done correctly, botox should not make an individual look fake.
An experienced doctor will be able to recommend the ideal botox dosage to achieve your desired appearance.
For example, those who prefer a more "natural" look will receive a lower dosage of botox compared to those who prefer a more "frozen / stiff" look.
Those opting for a more natural look will still retain around 30-40% of muscle movement. However, retaining a certain degree muscle movement would mean that some wrinkles and lines may still be present.
For those who prefer minimal wrinkles, Dr Edwin will recommend a higher dosage to keep muscle movement to a minimum. However, minimal muscle movement translates to lesser facial expressions and hence a more "frozen / stiff" appearance.
After forehead botox, patients may experience bruising and swelling at the injection sites. The swelling from botox usually disappears in a few hours whilst bruising tends to fade after a few days.
Side effects such as eyelid and eyebrow ptosis is extremely rare when botox is performed by an experienced doctor.
Aside from forehead wrinkles, other common areas treated with botox include

Treating wrinkles is a two pronged approach. Botox injections help to relax muscular contractions and is the first part of the equation.
Treatments that focus on boosting skin collagen levels are the next focus.
Rejuran Healer
Micro injections of polynucleotides (PN) derived from salmon DNA into the skin stimulate collagen production by increasing the proliferation of fibroblasts.
