Neurotoxins or commonly known as Botox in Singapore are produced by the Clostridium Botulinum bacteria. It is known by several brand names in the market.
It is a cosmetic procedure done by medical professionals to improve wrinkles and treat certain muscular conditions.
Botox works by relaxing muscles and preventing strong muscle contractions at areas such as the forehead, corners of the eyes, frown lines etc.
Lines and wrinkles develop because of repeated creasing of the skin due to muscle contraction when making facial expressions.
For example, frequent raising of eyebrows can lead to horizontal forehead wrinkles and lines.
By relaxing the muscle and reducing muscle contractions, botox is able to improve facial expression lines and wrinkles.
Botox is injected into the muscle using extremely tiny needles. The experience is akin to small ant bites.
Prior to treatment, Dr Edwin will discuss with you the dosage and points of injection for optimal results. Unless requested, Dr Edwin's preference is to deliver natural-looking Botox results instead of the "frozen" or "stiff" look.
Cold ice will be applied to the skin just before injection to minimise discomfort and reduce risk of bruising.
Whilst the thought of injections may be scary for first-timers of botox, good hands and proper injection technique can reduce pain and discomfort.
After treatment, small "bumps" containing Botox may be noticed at the injection sites. These "bumps" will disappear in 2 to 4 hours and patients are advised not to apply pressure to these bumps as it will cause Botox to diffuse from the intended site of injection.
Some patients may experience small bruises, especially when injecting around delicate areas such as the eye. It is recommended to apply our Intensive Recovery Cream post-procedure and most bruises will subside after 5 to 7 days.
Improvement of wrinkles & fine lines will appear after 3 to 10 days. Results last between 4 to 6 months.
