Neurotoxin Wrinkle Treatment
What are Neurotoxins?
Neurotoxins are produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacteria. It is known by several brand names in the market. Due to google search restrictions, we are limited to using the word Neurotoxin. Dr Edwin prefers to use the original neurotoxin from Allergan starting with B.
It is a popular cosmetic procedure done by medical professionals to improve wrinkles and treat certain muscular conditions.
How does Neurotoxin work?
Neurotoxins work by relaxing muscles and preventing strong muscle contractions at areas such as the forehead, corners of the eyes, frown lines etc.
Lines and wrinkles develop because of repeated creasing of the skin due to muscle contraction when making facial expressions. For example, frequent raising of eyebrows can lead to horizontal forehead lines.
By relaxing the muscle and reducing muscle contractions, Neurotoxins are able to improve facial expression lines and wrinkles.
Popular areas treated with Neurotoxins
Neurotoxins are injected into the muscle using extremely tiny needles. The experience is akin to small ant bites. Prior to treatment, Dr Edwin will discuss with you the dosage and points of injection for optimal results. Unless requested, Dr Edwin's preference is to deliver natural looking results instead of the "Frozen" look.
Cold ice will be applied to the skin just before injection to minimise discomfort and reduce risk of bruising. Whilst the thought of injections may be scary for first timers of Neurotoxins, good hands and proper injection technique will significantly reduce pain and discomfort.
After treatment, small "bumps" of Neurotoxins may be noticed at the injection sites. These "bumps" will disappear in 2 to 4 hours and patients are advised not to apply pressure to these bumps as it will cause Neurotoxins to diffuse from the intended site of injection.
Some patients may experience small bruises especially when injecting around delicate areas such as the eye. It is recommended to apply our Intensive Recovery Cream post procedure and most bruises will subside after 5 to 7 days.
Improvement of wrinkles & fine lines will appear after 3 to 7 days. Results last between 4 to 6 months.
How long does it take?
A treatment typically takes between 5 to 15 minutes depending on the number of areas treated
Is it painful?
Cold ice packs will be applied prior to each injection to numb the area and reduce the risk of bruising. During the procedure, tiny ant bites will be felt during each injection

How long do results last for?
Is there any downtime?
Immediately after botox, there may be some needle marks and bumps (filled with botox) which will disappear in 2 to 3 hours. It is recommended to not apply pressure to these bumps. Individuals with more sensitive skin may experience mild bruising which may require 5 to 7 days to disappear
Will my face be frozen?
Dr Edwin believes that natural looking botox results should be the de facto standard unless otherwise requested by the patient. By placing botox at key areas with a moderate dose, he is able to reduce wrinkles and preserve facial expressions (not frozen).
